Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we made our yearly trip to the Pumpkin patch.  We went last year to Hubbard Farms and loved it.  It is in Coupeville on Whidbey Island and the boys love the tractor trailer rides and this year they made a little maze out of hay bales. 

We each got a pumpkin for carving and then a few little white ones that we painted today with glow in the dark paint.  Tomorrow I will have to see if Ace has some better glow in the dark paint however! Our little white pumpkins aren't very glowy!



Creamy Herbed Pasta

The other day I was short on time with 3 hungry boys and nothing ready for dinner! So what do you do? You open up a box of pasta and a cook book, boil some water, close your eyes and point to a recipe and make it.  And that's how I found this!

Creamy Herbed Pasta

about 4 cups Pasta

1/2 cup snipped fresh Basil or 4 T dried Basil, crushed

4 cloves of Garlic, minced

1T Olive Oil

4 oz Cream Cheese

1/2 cup Cottage Cheese

1/3 cup grated Parmesan Cheese

1/2 cup Water

1/4 cup snipped fresh Parsley

Cook pasta according to  package directions.  Drain, keep warm.  In a medium saucepan cook basil and garlic in hot oil about 30 seconds about 30 seconds.  Add cream cheese, cottage cheese and parmesan cheese.  Heat and stir until nearly smooth.  Stir in water and parsley.  Bring to a gentle boil; reduce heat. Cook and stir 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.  Serve sauce over hot pasta. 

OK, so here's the thing we didn't have most of these things, but what we did have made for some good stuff!  We did the pasta, dried basil, olive oil, cream cheese, fresh shredded parmesan cheese and water.  Logan loved it and ate half of it and our neighbor came over and had a bowl too!

My craft project

A while back I saw this idea somewhere online where they framed pictures from a children's book and I loved the idea, but not so much the price.  So I got to thinking what I could do to make these still look classy without the classy price tag.  And I thought about how they put pictures on foam board and how great that looks...so I figured why not try that.  So I found myself so not so cheap (almost $6) foam board from our local craft store (first mistake), my modge podge and foam brush and got to work.  It is so quick and easy to do and although they aren't perfect, I don't think people will be putting their nose to my nursery walls!

First I put glue on the foam board and then put the page on and then glued the top making sure to get the edges really well.  I did notice that it bubbled a little with the glue, but I wonder how it would work if you used card stalk behind the picture to stiffen it.  I might have to try it later.

Next I got out my box cutter, omnigrid, my moms mat and got to cutting!

Hanging it was my only question...that and it had warped a little when it dried.  So after I cut them all I put them under my stoneware from my kitchen for a few days which worked beautifully.  After I had my flat artwork I chiseled out little slots in the back of my pictures for hanging purposes.  Now I want to put up a few vinyl quotes from the book to finish it off.  I will share when I get that done.  Won't be tomorrow!

 Oh before I forget, I used the book Where The Wild Things Are and I took it to Sound Business Center to get the binding cut off.  That's a great little tool they have! 

Logan

Today I got to spend some one on one time with Logan while James was at preschool.  Sometimes I use the time while James is at preschool to get things done, but today since my one on one time  is running out I ignored all the stuff that needs to get done and spent some time with my Logan. 

We had sandwiches for lunch and although I offered him a turkey sandwich with thinly sliced tomatoes he had something different in mind! That bagel was left over from breakfast and he took the half tomato that I had set aside and used it to make his own sandwich.  He really has a thing for tomatoes! Good thing we planted 5 plants! Now if I can remember to water...

I'd like you to meet cross eyed Bob!

In middle school my favorite teacher was Ms. Campbell and she had a boyfriend that we nicknamed cross-eyed Bob.  Maybe all babies do the cross-eyed thing, but I don't think mine have, so every time I see him doing it all I can think of is her boyfriend, cross-eyed Bob. 

BLTA's

Tonight we had BLTA sandwiches on this great bread I found.  I love the thin bagels and they have thin hamburger buns too, but I just found these and they are fantastic too! These ones had a picture of a hot dog in them, but I have seen the same looking ones that are called subs.  I tried giving them to the boys with hot dogs in them, but they didn't take my new find.

Today was another story! Add bacon to anything and he will ask for seconds, so tonight we had BLT's with a little A (avocado) just to jazz it up! I toasted them up and they were perfectly soft and warm, like brand new!

Oh course James just had bacon on his, but nothing changes around here!  FYI the last picture is not for the faint of heart! James is proud of his love for bacon.

The boys new toy

The other day my mom had the boys while I was at an interview and she helped them install the kiddie swing to a level they could actually use.  Ever since then they play on it all the time! James hasn't seemed to mind that he is the one pushing while Logan is enjoying the good rides.  Logan just laughs and laughs and James likes being run into...in fact he might like getting run into more than Logan likes being flown around.  I think I bought this for them a year ago, but never found the right place to hang it.  I still need to get it on there a little better, but it is perfect for today and that is all I can worry about now!

Socks

I know many a mom that has had difficulties with their babies socks...and I am one of those moms.  I have tons of socks because I tried so many different brands with Logan.  He was such a chunky baby that everything cut off the circulation.  Even now he is wearing size 3-4 socks and he's not even two yet! Any way, Carson has had a hard time keep his socks on.  They fall off and then you loose one.  But I realized even though these socks are way too big, they look great! They are kinda like leg warmers now! They never fell down.  I did his socks at 7:30 this morning after a bath and lotion and at 10:00 when I took this picture tonight they were still on his feet without any adjustments.  I love this idea! I surprise myself sometimes.

Pink?

Last time I was at Target I found these cloth diapers.  I love cloth diapers, but they are so expensive to get into.  I figure that babies don't hang around in just their diapers, so pink or blue it doesn't matter.  I got a lavender pair too, so check him out sometime! We don't mind!

Popcorn

Growing up we had popcorn every Sunday for dinner, or at least that's how I remembered it.  It was always a real shock for me when there was an actual dinner.  My mom always told us that it was Sunday, therefore it was the maids day off.  My dad would make this giant thing of popcorn and we would just eat for hours watching the Disney movie on channel 4.  I decided when I got married and had kids we would do this, but it happened maybe once or twice and I never got back into it.  So tonight we didn't have popcorn, but we did pull out the microwave popper and used some cute bags that Shelly MacMillan gave us and enjoyed the outdoors together.  It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day.

Of course you can't have a nice day without a popsicle.  We were watching our neighbors little boy and she brought a big bag of popsicles for us and we were more then willing to enjoy!
